National Spirtual Science Center
Fellowship and praise are central elements of the Spiritual Science community. We believe that worship should be enlightening, relevant, inspiring and renewing to the spirit. Our Sunday Worship Service begins with a healing prayer, followed by a channeled or inspired commentary and ends with practical, inspired messages from Spirit.
Meditation is at the heart of all services. Our dedicated meditation services are held at the full and new moons, equinoxes, and solstices. It is a service to refresh your spirit, reflect on past challenges and seek new opportunities with energy and creativity.
As we enter fully into the twenty-first century, we hear daily about new advancements in the power of medicine to fight disease. However, healing is more than that. Healing is an opportunity to feel whole, to achieve balance, to be complete in mind, body and spirit. Every Sunday evening, we provide Healing Services to our community. Harnessing the power of spiritual channeling, prayer and meditation, we recognize that the power to be whole is always within our reach. Individual counseling for those seeking therapeutic touch and Reiki healing is also available.
Central to our mission is the School of Spiritual Science. The School presents a curriculum of practical spirituality, meditation and service, which addresses the means of building and living in a world of peace, abundance, health, loving relationships, success and fulfillment. The program is ideal for those who wish to explore their spiritual power, as well as students who have chosen the path of ministerial service and ordination. Members of our ministerial staff may also be contacted for lectures and workshops, retreat leadership and private transpersonal counseling, celebration of non-denominational marriages and other rituals that enrich outer and inner life.
As the Spiritual Science Guidelines tell us, “Soul unfoldment is the purpose of life. Fraternal service is the way of life.” We believe that living in service to others is more than simply a good thing. It is the path that allows each of us to reach our highest spiritual aspirations. In seeking to serve others – individually and collectively – we harness the remarkable power of creation. We embrace the gift of creating our own destiny and creating a world that comforts, sustains and empowers all humanity. Serving others is a commitment to our community to spirit, to others and to ourselves.
We embrace the gift of creating our own destiny and creating a world that comforts, sustains and empowers all humanity. We invite you to join us in the spirit of seeking to birth a new kind of humanity, a new kind of nation, a new kind of world.
HISTORY
The National Spiritual Science Center was established in 1941 in Washington, D.C. by Rev. Alice Wellstood Tindall as the First Spiritual Science Church. Rev. Tindall was trained at the Spiritual Science Mother Church founded by Rev. Julia Forrest on May 23, 1923 at Carnegie Hall Studios in New York City.
From 1941 to 1968, Rev, Tindall conducted weekly services, led development circles and represented the church and its concepts in public appearances. The church was an active participant, through Rev. Tindall, in organizing the Federation of Spiritual Churches and Associations. Rev. Tindall served repeatedly as an officer of the Federation.
Rev. Diane and Rev. Henry Nagorka joined the Church in 1962 and studied with Rev. Tindall until 1968. In 1969, responsibilities for the Church were transferred to the Revs. Nagorka. The School of Spiritual Science was later established and Center activities were expanded. Rev. Henry J. Nagorka was President of the Center for sixteen years. With his passing in 1986, Rev. Diane Nagorka served as President until retiring in June 1989.
Entering fully into the group dynamic of the Age of Aquarius, oversight and policy direction for the Center is provided by its Board of Directors.
SPIRITUAL SCIENCE DEFINED
Spiritual Science is a philosophy, a way of life, and a non-sectarian spiritual practice that teaches individuals to plumb the depths of their relationship to ALL things, their concept of Deity (God/ Goddess/ All That Is), and their own selves.
Further defined,
Spiritual Science is an investigation of a person's relationship to God/Goddess/All That Is on a very personal level. Based on an individual understanding and application of the spiritual laws and principles of the universe, and on esoteric and metaphysical philosophies, Spiritual Science encourages each person to test their beliefs and prove them scientifically to themselves as much as possible. SPIRITUAL SCIENCE is the science of individual spiritual growth.
Spiritual Science is inclusive, believing that all people and all religions are inherently good.
Spiritual Science places an emphasis on meditation as the path for getting in touch with one's inner guidance, and to develop intuition and psychic abilities.
Spiritual Science teaches an expectation that through their thoughts, words and actions, every individual takes responsibility for their own selves, and their own lives.
